The story behind

The start of Cirka AS, now operating as Øygarden Active, didn't happen according to a typical business plan, but rather emerged from the owners' passion for outdoor adventures in the Øygarden nature. It all began when four colleagues in junior high school shared a common interest in outdoor activities. There were numerous kayaking and climbing trips around the municipality, and as time passed, they pursued further education to become instructors in various fields. One of the colleagues moved away, leaving only three.

During the winter when it rained and was cold, there was a need to climb indoors, but alas, it was quite a drive all the way to Bergen. The idea was planted. One of the colleagues had too much on their plate, but two others had the time during this period. We started small with a climbing course center, then spring came, and Øygarden Kayak Center saw the light of day under the same umbrella.

After a cold summer with kayak courses for our friends at Fjærland Guiding, we experienced the joy of going straight from courses in the cold but magical azure blue sea, to 90-degree heat in the sauna! Fjærland Guiding inspired us! We had evenings of intense discussions about operations and regulations, drawbacks, and advantages. That autumn, the first floating sauna came into Kjøpmannsvågen on Toftøy. Cirka AS had a new product! The sauna boat provided access to Øygarden's greatest resource all year round. The sea!

Today, Cirka AS operates Øygarden Active's experiences and courses on land and sea in Øygarden from Toftøy.
